PAN.OPTIKUM
Germany’s PAN.OPTIKUM are the world’s giants in outdoor theatre. PAN.OPTIKUM views itself as related to the traditional outdoor productions of France and Spain in terms of its theatrical language and forms of expression. Nevertheless, it has developed a style entirely its own with the focus of the productions being visual and musical.
First formed in 1982 in Berlin, in 1989 PAN.OPTIKUM, led by Sigrun Fritsch and Ralf Buron moved to Germany’s Southwest. By 2001 PAN.OPTIKUM had 35 permanent members and the production site moves from Stuttgart to Freiburg. PAN.OPTIKUM consciously strives to artistically walk the tightrope between the genre of action theatre and subjects taken from literature, classical theatre and opera.
