PAN.OPTIKUM

Germany’s PAN.OPTIKUM are the world’s giants in outdoor theatre. PAN.OPTIKUM views itself as related to the traditional outdoor productions of France and Spain in terms of its theatrical language and forms of expression. Nevertheless, it has developed a style entirely its own with the focus of the productions being visual and musical.
First formed in 1982 in Berlin, in 1989 PAN.OPTIKUM, led by Sigrun Fritsch and Ralf Buron moved to Germany’s Southwest. By 2001 PAN.OPTIKUM had 35 permanent members and the production site moves from Stuttgart to Freiburg. PAN.OPTIKUM consciously strives to artistically walk the tightrope between the genre of action theatre and subjects taken from literature, classical theatre and opera.

Workshop 1
'Exercises on Presence' (Sigrun Fritsch)

Exercises on the unique meaning which body and energy gain through the absence of one main focus in outdoor productions and other environmental performances
Improvisations: movement series based on a text
Exercises on the clear visual definition of a character (costume, objects)

Workshop 2
'Exercises on Voice' (Matthias Rettner)

Individual 30-minute lessons on the economic use of the voice in relation with breath and body
Basis of this workshop are Pan. Optikum's experiences with partly classical as well as non-classical vocal compositions in extreme physical postures, as well as Feldenkreis, work on breath (Middendorf) and classical singing training.

"A spectacular puzzle of video projections, live music, acrobatics, pyrotechnics and large moving objects. Amazing images, a work of art, an artistic and aesthetic vision and a political and social message.
El Adelanto

A denunciation of a neo-liberal value set which comprises the urge to succeed and win against the opponent, no matter how.
All of this in an extraordinarily large-scale spectacle for audiences of any age.

A fascinating performance with profound and revealing statements, plus music and magnificent fireworks effects - the show had it all. Resounding applause from a total of 6,500 spectators.
