Cork Opera House together with the renowned Cork based theatre company, Corcadorca, are joining forces this October to present a new production of one of Shakespeare’s most famous plays – Romeo and Juliet. Corcadorca’s Romeo and Juliet will present a modern approach and will build on last year’s success of The Winter’s Tale, also presented in collaboration with Cork Opera House. This play embodies the romance and tragedy of life and love and inspires us to question our own destiny.

Showings from the 10th to 20th October nightly.

A number of matinees have already sold out. Due to this demand an additional matinee showing has been added on the 19th October.

Declarations of Love
As ever Corcadorca is in love with the idea of bringing theatre to all of Cork (and beyond.) As part of the production of Romeo and Juliet we have planned a way to include the people of Cork in every night of the play. Soon, ballot boxes will be appearing around Cork and we're hoping that you can provide us with your Declarations of Love.

The ballot boxes will be appearing in numerous places including many libraries, where you can write us your ideas and thoughts on the wondrous thing that is love. These Declarations of Love will then be included in every night of the Romeo and Juliet production in the Cork Opera House.

Together Corcadorca and you can bring not only Shakespeare's idea of love but all our understandings of love to thousands of theatre goers from all over the country.

Theatre Development Centre @ Triskel

The Theatre Development Centre was established by Corcadorca in 2011. Unique in Ireland, it is a studio space dedicated to the development of professional theatre.

Housed in the Triskel Arts Centre, Corcadorca make the space available to theatre makers free of charge so they may write, work with actors, develop the technical aspects of a piece, but most of all so they have a supportive environment in which to create work for the stage.

Makers take the space for a week, and how they spend their time in the Theatre Development Centre is for them to decide. The one condition being that they allow an audience to attend a showing of their work at the end of their week long residency. Technical support is offered by Corcadorca towards these showings, after which, the makers interact with the audience, and there is a facilitated Q&A session.
