Last March was the first time in a long time to see Corcadorca move into a theatre space. After the sell-out success of Woyzeck at Ireland's Naval Base on Haulbowline Island we staged a new Irish play, Ger Bourke’s Last Beauty Spot, a dark comedy on the changing face of modern Ireland. By Ger Bourke Directed by Pat Kiernan Designed by Aedín Cosgrove Costumes by Joan Hickson
Cast Donagh Deeney - Dandy Joan Sheehy - Babe Anthony Morris - Willie O' Jamie Beamish - Davy
Corcadorca’s Last Beauty Spot is an unexpected look at the Ireland we really belong to. A premier production, this four-man show was perfectly designed for the intimacy of the Cork Arts Theatre. Kilkenny based playwright Ger Bourke has won several awards for his writing including the RTÉ P.J. O'Connor Award and the 2000 Corcadorca Playwright Award. This is the third time Corcadorca works with Ger, having previously produced his plays Banshee Makers and Snap.
‘Bourke does not invite the obvious, and his writing here is both skilful and sinuous, something almost of a lark...’ The Irish Times ‘Productions standards are high in this smart and enjoyable snipe at how low Irish life can get’ The Evening Echo
‘poignant, evocative, brilliant in places’ The Sunday Times
‘Slow motion performance of a Father Ted episode, where the comedy is sleazier and nastier’
The Evening Echo
