This June, Corcadorca, famed for staging spectacular theatre in unusual locations, presented ‘The Hairy Ape’ by Eugene O’Neill.
Having reinvented Ireland’s Naval Base last Summer for the staging of ‘Woyzeck’, this year Corcadorca transformed a vast warehouse in Cork’s docklands for a highly visual promenade production of O’Neill’s epic text.
For the past four years, Corcadorca’s shows for the Midsummer Festival have completely sold out, and have twice been nominated for Best Production in the Irish Times Theatre Awards. (‘Woyzeck’ in 2007 and ‘The Merchant of Venice’ in 2005.)
O’Neill, considered one of America’s greatest playwrights, was awarded 4 Pulitzer prizes, as well as the Nobel prize for literature. This is the first time ‘The Hairy Ape’ has been staged in Ireland.

“In this production, Corcadorca surpass even their own high standards” The Irish Examiner
"Hairy Ape is a bold triumph" Evening Echo "The Hairy Ape is another major achievement for a company synonymous with bold and dynamic Irish theatre." Sunday Tribune "A tribute to Corcadorca’s intellectual as well as theatrical vision." Irish Times
'What I am after is to get an audience to leave the theatre with an exultant feeling from seeing somebody on the stage facing life , fighting against the odds, not conquering but, perhaps inevitably, being conquered . The individual life is made significant just by the struggle' Eugene O’ Neill on The Hairy Ape
