On Good Friday, April 21st 2000, Corcadorca Theatre Company staged 'The Trial of Jesus', a spectacular re-enactment of the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ. 'The Trial of Jesus' was staged on the streets of Cork and featured in excess of 120 costumed performers including professional actors and representatives of Community and Church groups from Cork city and county. The production took place on a number of stages and culminated in the crucifixion of Jesus in Bell's field. The Good Friday spectacular drew an audience of thousands from Cork county and beyond and was a free ticketed event. Written by Conal Creedon and directed by Pat Kiernan, 'The Trial of Jesus' stimulated substantial media interest and turned out to be one of the theatrical experiences of the Millennium year. A 'making of' style documentary was subsequently filmed by RTE. "Ground breakers in a theatrical sense. Ranks as the single most impressive cultural contribution to the millennium year bar none." The Irish Examiner "Moving, iconic yet utterly contemporary, an image of exhilarating desolation burned into memories" The Irish Times 'A company with the skills to match a laudably boundless ambition' Fintan O'Toole - The Irish Times
'Corcadorca invents its own classifications, which is why it is so catalytic' Mary Leland - The Examiner
