Corcadorca Symposium
- 'Is This Theatre?'

An exploration of theatre in non-theatre venues

25th - 27th April 2008 - Cork City

This April the international masters of site-interactive theatre and outdoor came to Cork. Corcadorca hosted a symposium entitled ‘Is This Theatre?’ An exploration of theatre in non-theatre venues.

PAN.OPTIKUM (Germany), Punchdrunk (UK), Teatr Biuro Podrozy (Poland), and Company Dakar (Netherlands) presented workshops and talks during this two day event in Cork city, culminating in a final open forum. Professional site-specific and venue based theatre practitioners both nationally and internationally were invited to participate. This weekend provided a rare opportunity to work with and learn from, some of the world leaders in site-specific and outdoor theatre.

History
In 2004, in association with Cork 2005 European Capital of Culture, Corcadorca hosted the Relocation Weekend, a series of workshop and seminars on site-interactive theatre. The response was very positive, leading to a number of the participants, both Irish and international, subsequently being employed via contacts made. This pilot project was the first of it’s kind in Ireland.
