Compagnie Jo Bithume Present: Victor Frankenstein
The fact that Compagnie Jo Bithume, who only ever produce a premiere once every four years, has chosen Relocation as the launch pad for 'Victor Frankenstein' illustrates just how special Relocation is. This is a company who define the European tradition of street theatre. One of the largest off-site theatre companies in the world, its fifty-strong troupe firmly believe theatre should be "Close to the public, and especially the public who don't go to theatre." With this in mind. Compagnie Jo Bithume is literally bringing theatre right to the heart of Cork.
Once known in Irish as 'Sráid an Capaill Buí' – Street of the Yellow Horse, the Grand Parade is a large open place right in the middle of the city, flanked by two of Cork's most popular haunts, the famous English Market and the lunchtime favourite, the Peace Park. Revisiting the myth of Frankenstein Jo Bithume will completely transform the Grand Parade, creating glaciers and mountains, shipwrecks and castles in a moment of poetry, drama and comedy to be shared with 10,000 people of all ages. For three nights, using an explosive cocktail of projections, circus and symphony the actors and musicians will perform in, around and above the enclosed audience to reveal the story of 'Victor Frankenstein'.
"Best performance of the festival FETA 2002 of Gdansk".
Gazeta Wyborcza Trojmiasto (Poland).
"Celebrated everywhere in Europe, Company Jo Bithume constitutes a theatrical planet of its own" .
Wiesbadener Kurier (Germany).
